UNPRECEDENTED - Unrevealing the mechanisms involved when producing biodiesel from waste oil using a combined experimental and theoretical methodology

A 40% reduction in emissions should be achieved by 2030 within the EU with the outstanding goal for Europe to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. These goals need to be reached without jeopardizing economic development and growth and simultaneously fulfilling the UN goals for sustainability. One of the main contributors to climate change and global warming is emissions from our vehicles as these mainly use petroleum-based fuels. To address this, new approaches, methodologies, and technologies must be developed.

REESOURCE - Unlocking the Supply of Rare Earth Elements in Europe through Responsible, Sustainable and Decarbonized Innovative Technologies

Responsible, sustainable and low CO2 footprint mineral extraction is vital for the preservation of our planet. Ensuring responsible supply of minerals involves addressing the environmental, social, and economic impacts of mineral extraction and developing technologies and know-how to minimize them.

M2N - Moving2Neutrality

The Moving2Neutrality Agenda, supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR),  is a highly innovative integrated industrial project focused on the production of green hydrogen and biofuels to support the decarbonization of the transport sector, particularly in segments that are hard to electrify. The consortium, led by Petrogal, includes national reference entities with unrivalled knowledge and experience throughout the value chain as well as leading institutions in R&D activities at all stages of the production processes.

CLEANFOREST - Management and valorisation of forest residues regarding the prevention of fires and also the production of sustainable and competitive bioenergy for inland regions

The aim of this project is to valorize forest biomass wastes into bioenergy, more precisely, production of 2nd generation synthetic biofuels, such as, biogas, biomethanol, bio-DME, etc., depending on process operating conditions, such as, pressure, temperature and type of solid catalyst used. The valorization of potential forest wastes biomass enhances the reduction of probability of occurrence of forest fires and, presents a major value for local communities, especially, in rural populations.

CCL - Clean Cement Line

The Clean Cement Line aims to develop and demonstrate a new cement production technology. This project includes four R&D sub-projects that aim to eliminate the dependence on fossil fuels, increase energy efficiency, produce electricity itself, integrate the digitalization process and reduce CO2 emissions. These innovations will promote the production of a low carbon clinker and consequently the creation of a range of cement types with a low ecological footprint.

ASTRIIS - Atlantic Sustainability Through Remote and In-situ Integrated Solutions

ASTRIIS (Atlantic Sustainability Through Remote and In-situ Integrated Solutions) is a Portuguese project to support the sustainable growth of the blue economy by developing technical and scientific knowledge for the design, demonstration and implementation of integrated and customizable information products and services.

SOLAR2CLEAN - Engineered solar light driven photocatalytic systems for wastewater purification

The SOLAR2CLEAN project, in partnership with ETH Zurich (Switzerland) aims at the achievement of a highly efficient engineered photocatalytic system, driven by solar light, of high applicability in real-life, targeting wastewater purification, i.e. the degradation of microplastics and other pollutants (antibiotic residues) generated by a high value Portuguese industry. It involves a dynamic research plan fostering innovation, technology integration and international collaborations.
